40 Years of Friendship

In the heart of Southeast Texas, a unique story unfolds, starting with an encounter between Charles Smith and Adrien Littlefield in 1982. Charles Smith, the visionary behind Monument Roofing Systems, walked into the roofing supply house that Adrien Littlefield managed. Little did they realize that this seemingly chance meeting would blossom into a legacy of two families intertwining their destinies for over four decades.

Growth of the Friendship:

Navigating the challenges of each day can sometimes overshadow the brighter moments. Yet, for Charles Smith, stepping into the roofing supply house that the Littlefields managed was a beacon of positivity. Like any other customer, Adien and his boys would greet Charles as he walked through the doors. However, each time Adrien saw Charles at the counter, a ritual unfolded—one that brought a genuine warmth to both their hearts.

At the sight of Charles through the glass window in his office, Adrien would smile,  jump up, and tell Charles to “hold up a minute.” With a joyful expression, Adrien would approach Charles and a story would ensue. Whether the story began with their shared love of hunting, family moments  or any other topic; Charles and Adrien would both walk away with a positive mark that lingered throughout the day. Each encounter between Charles and Adrien, planted seeds that sprouted into a testament of effective communication, adaptability, and the depth of mutual trust within their business friendship.

Preserving the Legacy:

The progression of time witnessed the transition of the initial business friendship between Charles and Adrien to the next generation. Greg and Scott Littlefield, Adrien’s sons, have assumed leadership roles at Elite Roofing Supply while Charles' son, Slade Smith, now oversees the day-to-day operations at Monument Roofing Systems. Notably, this transition included a recent collaborative effort by Greg, Scott, and Slade, who worked together to provide a new roof to American Legion Post 33 at no charge.

Today, the children of the original visionaries continue to preserve the core principles that initially brought these families together. This transition, a rare feat at a time when businesses often struggle beyond the first generation, is a testament to the trust and understanding nurtured over the years.

Moving Forward:

As the third generation of this partnership begins to emerge, the landscape of these businesses  evolves once more. Throughout each generational transition lies a profound sentiment that transcends the business bottom line. It's not merely a passing of the torch; it's a continuation of a legacy rooted in trust, respect, defying the odds and a shared commitment to excellence.
