Hurricane/Storm Preparedness

Whether you live in SETX, Louisiana, or Oklahoma, weather can wreak havoc on your commercial roofing system. Hurricanes and severe weather can cause devastating destruction to your investment. As a building owner, you can do certain things to help extend the life of your roofing system and prevent damage during severe weather.

  • Preventive maintenance is key.

    • Inspect for debris and remove any potential hazards.

  • Make sure all equipment on your roof is secure.

    • Just one loose HVAC panel can blow off and cause significant damage in multiple areas on the roof.

  • Clear all drains and gutters often.

    • The backup from clogged drains adds excessive weight to your roof and can cause significant damage to the membrane.

  • Remove unnecessary items from the roof.

    • Anything that doesn’t need to be on your roof should be removed. Remember, hurricanes can blow down buildings. There is nothing on your roof, that is not tied down, that doesn’t have the potential to become hazardous during a hurricane.

  • Trim any tree or bush that is close to your roof.

    • It is recommended that all landscaping should be trimmed to 5 or more feet away from the building

  • Take pictures of your roof.

    • For insurance claims, take photos both before and after. You can never be too detailed with your photos.

  • Schedule a post-storm inspection.

    • If you feel that your roof made it through the storm without any damage, we still recommend a post storm inspection. Small issues can remain hidden until they become a big problem. A post storm inspection can pinpoint these issues.
