Tropical Storm Eduardo Left Its Mark

Well, Tropical Storm Eduardo certainly caused its share of problems throughout Southeast Texas.

Between the high winds, falling trees, flying debris, flooding and widespread power outages, many homes and commercial properties were affected. We hope most of you have your power back on by now—and our hearts go out to those who are still waiting.

First and foremost, we truly hope you, your family and your employees are safe. Property can be repaired or replaced. People cannot.

What Should You Do Now?

1. Stay safe

• Stay away from fallen power lines.

• Avoid standing water near anything electrical.

• Watch for damaged trees and unstable structures.

• Please do not climb onto a wet or damaged roof.

2. Take pictures

Before cleaning up or moving anything, take pictures and videos of:

• Wind damage

• Fallen trees and limbs

• Flying-debris damage

• Flooding and water damage

• Damaged equipment and belongings

Keep all receipts for cleanup, temporary repairs and supplies.

3. Prevent more damage—only if it is safe

• Move belongings away from leaks.

• Cover exposed areas.

• Remove standing water when possible.

• Do not put yourself in danger trying to protect the property.

4. Contact your insurance company

Report the damage as soon as possible. Keep your claim number and save copies of:

• Pictures and videos

• Estimates and invoices

• Receipts

• Notes from conversations

• Emails and other paperwork

5. Have the roof inspected

Storm damage is not always visible from the ground. High winds, falling limbs and flying debris can loosen materials, damage flashing or puncture a roof—even when there is not an immediate leak.
